FAQ

Welcome to Intrigue By Remix virgin hair extensions human hair weave.

What is virgin hair?

Virgin hair is 100% human hair that has never been chemically processed in any way (colored, permed, etc.) and has not been coated with silicone. Most consumers are unaware that non virgin hair cuticles were chemically stripped then coated with silicone to give a shine and temporary tangle free and silky look. That silicone wears off leaving the damaged cuticles exposed resulting in stiff, matted, tangled, and dry hair. That is the leading cause in non-virgin hair requiring frequent replacement.

What is Remy hair?

The word “Remy” is used to describe hair with cuticles intact that are pointing from root to tip. Virgin hair can be Remy. However many brands marketed as Remy are not virgin hair. They have been processed and coated with silicone which decreases the life of the hair.

What is single-drawn hair?

Single-drawn hair refers to hair length within a weft. The hair looks much like a ponytail with some longer hair and some shorter hair (with the very short hairs having been removed). This is the most commonly used type of hair.

What is double-drawn hair?

Double-drawn hair refers to hair length within a weft. In a double-drawn hair piece, all of the hairs in the piece are the same length.

What is bulk hair?

Bulk hair is loose hair that is used for braiding, making lace wigs by hand and other extension styles that do not require hair to be in a weft.

What does “weft” mean?

Weft refers to the process of sewing hair strands together. Once in a weft the hair can be attached using various techniques.  Sew-in, glue/bonded, clipped in, net weaving etc.

Can the weft be cut?

Yes, machine wefts may be cut without unraveling, but hand-tied wefts should not be cut. If you must cut a hand-tied weft, you should tie it off at the end with the hanging weft thread, and we recommend sealing the tied-off portion with a fabric sealant.

What is the difference between a machine and hand-tied weft?

Hand tied wefts are made by tying strands of hair around a strong weaving thread; this process is done by hand. Machine wefts are made by sewing strands of hair together with a hair sewing machine.

What is the difference in Single and Double machine wefts?

Single machine wefts tend to be thinner at the weft site and are manufactured with a single layer of hair. Double machine wefts tend to be bulkier at the weft site, but because they are manufactured with a double layer of hair they create a fuller-looking weft.

How wide is the weft in inches?

The width of the weft depends on the weft type and length of the hair. Double-machine wefts are about half as wide as a single-machine weft. A 16” single-machine weft is approximately 80” – 90” long. Hand-tied wefts are similar in width to single-machine wefts.

Can I color this hair?

Yes! This is 100% virgin human hair, so you can treat it like you would your natural hair. Because it is virgin hair each bundle may vary in shade.

What types of hair care products should be used?

Moister rich shampoos and conditioners are highly recommended and avoid excessive use of alcohol-based styling products

How long does the hair last?

The more you alter its natural state, the more the health of the hair is compromised as with natural hair. However it can last up to one year if it is cared for properly.

How many bundles do I need for a full weave/sew in?

We recommend a minimum of two bundles for a full sew-in. Amount needed depends on the look you are going for. Note: the longer the hair the shorter the width resulting in less coverage and more bundles required to cover the head. Shorter hair = fuller bundles and longer hair =smaller bundles. If you prefer a partial sew-in you may only require one bundle.
